So these are the two attempts I made at using ink. Well, two of three; the first one was too embarrassingly dreadful to post. These are also dreadful. Have I mentioned that ink terrifies me? It's all indelible and one shade and black and stuff, and as will become apparent, I have no clue how to use it. It's scary! I did these in pencil first and then went over it, because I'm too cowardly to try sketching in ink from the outset.
This is what happens when I draw hands without a reference. Le sigh.
Meredith wants a pocket watch.
"Ewwwwwwww." Even doctors get squicked sometimes.
The degree of stylisation is not a deliberate choice, it's an artefact of my not knowing what to do with ink. :P Tell me what's wrong! How to fix it/tips on using ink is a doubleplus bonus!
Megan's comments from irc:
ReplyDeleteTry drawing in biro sometime, it's fun. Biro is like sketching with pencil, it is actually a very useful thing to play with as you are forced to sort of loosen up. Don't sketch in fineliner, it's just not worth it.
Pocket watch:
Meredith's left hand in on back to front, she actually has two right hands. I would mock but I have doen this recently. :P Rule of thumb, if the back of the hand and the face are visble the thumb points away from the midline of the body. Nose needs to be up and right a bit. The hands, other than the anatomical fault previously mentioned are good, you seem to be particularly good at thumbs. Her right elbow is off - her upper arm would be very, very, very long for that wrist position. Get another piece of paper and sketch in the offscreen anatomy. :) Other than that you are showing much improvement.
Squick:
The face work well on the third, it does look squicked. No new faults. Also avoid showing all the way round the iris unless you want them to look terrified.
